How it works
Aeration equipment moves oxygen through a cell in a pattern set by where the units sit and how the basin is shaped. Every real lagoon has places that pattern does not serve well: a deep corner, the far end of a long cell, the area behind an inlet structure. Those places go anoxic, and anoxic is where a blanket builds and hydrogen sulfide is produced.
A granular oxygen source works on that specific problem. Applied over the target zone it releases oxygen locally, in the place the water column was not delivering any, which both accelerates digestion of the organic solids sitting there and removes the condition that produces the odor.

How do I know where to apply it?
Profile dissolved oxygen by depth and by location, including pre-dawn rather than only midday, and map the sludge blanket on a grid. Those two together locate the anoxic zone. Applying it where access is easiest rather than where the problem is wastes the treatment.
Will it fix my odor problem?
